That's an interesting idea! I taught programming for over 15 years and am told that my students were "enthralled" by my lectures on pointers and references and whatever other crazy computer science concept the industry demanded we learn. I have ne...

At the moment, it's not going at all. I've been mired in a job transfer for several months. I've been living in a rental house on an air mattress with one table and chair and three computers for almost 2 months now, with the majority of my stuff 2 1/2 hrs. away. And yet, I am working full time.

The audio is one of the things I am looking forward to getting back to. My move is scheduled for June 11/12. After that I'll be settled here and can focus.

Have not decided if I will do Telaon as a Podiobook or just on my podcast. The computer I record and edit on is badly in need of a new hard drive and re-install of Windows and I don't use it much at the moment. I had bought a nice new microphone to use but despite it being advertised as "plug and play" it didn't work with either my Windows or Linux machines. So I'm back to the old Gigaware headset.

And honestly, I am not sanguine about my abilities as a narrarator. My accent is too thick and the quality of my voice just isn't good enough for my standards. I don't do my work justice in that respect, nor do right by my characters.

But it is good to hear from you. I still have that chapter of your book here on my computer.

I've left some feedback. Your recording didn't have too much background noise, that was good. I think you can be an excellent reader.

Hey, if you've got a free hour or so anytime soon could you go download and check out my sample first chapter episode on the Mentorship group? It's the discussion called "For Your Consideration - Telaon, Chapter 1" Or if you can't, pass on the word to anyone else you'd like. It's young adult sci-fi, really quite in the mold of "young person gets kidnapped by aliens, finds he has special powers, and is destined to save the universe". But still, this world needs more of those kinds of stories, eh?

Thanks,

Carol

Adding in the bookends

I've got the audio sounding better after doing some clean up editing and the re-recording. I found an upbeat song by Lynn Stokes on Archive.org (Change My Mind) which fits the mood of the book better. The intro is done. I need to re-record the outro with music credits.

It's taken a while to get to this point. Real life got in the way and I spent a lot of time listening to the recording. My goal is to have the recording done by Friday so I can torture poor Evo with it. That man has ears of steel… Continue

Recording a technical book - the beginning

I wrote a technical book about Google Blogger and it was published last year by Packtpub.com. They do e-book and print formats, but not audiobooks, and it made sense to me that listening while working on a project could be a good alternative. Writing the book was hard, and learning the ins and outs of recording and editing audio files has been a whole other challenge.

The first challenge is one of how to handle the issue of screenshots and other visual cues present in the book. My compromise is… Continue
