A few years back Cemetery Dance Publications published a short horror novel of mine. I would like to see if anyone out there would be interested in turning it into a Podiobooks audio book.
The book is just under 35,000 words, and was originally only published as a signed, limited edition. You can read a little about it here:
The reader would be welcome to keep any donations generated by the audio book. (To my way of thinking, I've already been paid for the novel, so the reader is the one who would be doing the work.)
If nobody is interested in tackling something of this length, my alternate plan would be to put together a selection of short horror stories that have been published in books and magazines over the years. If we went this route, the reader could let me know what word count he/she was interested in and I'd put together something of around that size.
If there is any more information you require or you have questions or suggestions, please let me know!
Unfortunately, the lure of donations is not too compelling, since most books make a pittance, and the work involved is tremendous. If you're looking for good narration, it won't be free, but some of us do have a special podbiobooks rate. http://podiobooks.com/authors/pbpro_samples.php
I'll ask the obvious question, Dominick: why don't you do the narration? 90%+ of the stories on the site here are narrated by the author. Jeff and other pro-narrators do great work, but they come at a fee as he's indicated.
Maybe you should try to record a sample and put up in the Mentorship program and get some feedback?
Unfortunately, I am not able to do the narration myself. I certainly understand folks not wanting to do this kind of work without guaranteed pay, though. Didn't hurt to ask, though!
I'm interested as long as Evo & company don't have a problem with it. I'm not trying to go over anyone or step on toes, I just don't know whether it breaches etiquette or not. I'm not a 'pro' but I do have a lot of hours behind a mic and in doing production and I'm looking to get some books under my belt to put on my resume.
If it's kosher, hit me up and we can talk about it -- nerraux@hotmail.com
